If anything, two of the BRICS powers – China and India – are investing billions of dollars in coal-fired thermal-power generation in Africa while winning global applause for increasing their solar and wind power at home.

This process is not new, it has been unfolding over several decades and has given rise to the phenomena of neoliberalism, globalisation and financialisation. These are capital’s means to overcome the crises of capitalism globally.

Chatter about reforming multilateral economic power structures, launching a new BRICS credit ratings agency, and prospects for leapfrog technology within the “4th Industrial Revolution” (4IR) also filled the air.

The shortest chapter in both The Constitution of the Republic of South Africa Act No. 200 of 1993 and the 1996 Constitution deals with traditional leadership.

This group was invited to facilitate the participation of the broadest front of organisations of the working class. A list of the 93 civil society formations and 61 unions, which have been invited was circulated and endorsed. More organisations will be included in the list. 

By far the world’s largest proletariat lies within the Brazil-Russia-India-China-South Africa (BRICS) bloc, whose state leaders meet in Johannesburg from 25-27 July and union officials gather in Durban the following weekend.

The National Department of Health has become one of the distressed departments in both the Zuma and Ramophosa’s cabinets. Way too many complaints, allegations and challenges have been levelled against the Department. These complaints come from both the community and the employees alike.

But this was not one of South Africa’s infamous “service delivery” protests. These protestors were villagers that were relocated from their communal land 17 years ago by Anglo American Platinum (Amplats), the world’s largest platinum company.
