The US president’s job is to run the American system. It is variously called ‘Capitalism’, ‘Democracy’, ‘Free market enterprises’ and others (the label used dependents upon the crowd being addressed and the theme of the talk).

We all know what happened. Donald Trump, that bumbling tycoon suddenly thrust into the political limelight, called for a wall to keep the immigrants – the Mexicans, the Muslims, the Syrians and the whoever else, out. The world went crazy.

Once again the darling of Europe, Robert Gabriel Mugabe, recently delivered a powerful climate change rebuke in Paris.[1] He loves travelling almost as much as making speeches and as frail as he is he wasn’t going to miss it.

‘Europe Must Take Responsibility for Refugee Crisis, Which It Created!’ blared President Jacob Zuma from the front-page a few days ago. For once shower-head Zuma is right.

The African National Congress is not the party it used to be. Jacob Zuma, now into his second term as President of South Africa, is spearheading a new movement in South African politics.

As I tuned my PC to watch something of the England vs. New Zealand game at the 2015 ICC Cricket World Cup (on right now), even before I had picture the roar of a helicopter filled my speakers. I’d caught a commercial. ‘Join the Royal Air Force’, it said.

Sixty years ago my Dad, Mom, my sisters and I sat on our camp chairs in the sand of the smallholding Dad called his farm just outside of Bulawayo, Zimbabwe. Together we watched the sun setting, the warmth of our braai fire at our backs.

This past Sunday, 25 January, the talented and beautiful Ziphozakhe Zokufa represented South Africa in the Miss Universe contest held in Miami. Now, I don’t follow any body beautiful or fashion contests. I get my kicks from the politics of economics.
