NEWS RELEASE
AITEC have announced the launch of their 6th West Africa Computing, Communications and Broadcasting Exhibition and Conference from 16-18 May 2002. Under the Theme : ''Developing a knowledg society for West Africa '' this high profile international event is expected to attract key decision makers throughout the region.

Now established as Ghana's principal event for the ICT and broadcasting industries and the main source of information for computing, communications and broadcasting professionals from throughout West Africa, the event last year attracted almost 7,000 high quality visitors including government and corporate users, NGO's, educational associations, network broadcasters and home computing consumers.
Speaking from AITEC's Accra office, press and PR manager Paul Asinor said "In 2002, we believe the industry here is poised to take a giant leap forward. Africa is deemed by ICT suppliers and manufacturers worldwide as an immense growth opportunity for the sector. And in West Africa, Ghana is at the very forefront of the digital revolution with its open market philosophy and positive economic outlook".
Because of this highly positive outlook, AITEC have made plans to increase the floor area of the exhibition anticipating more exhibitors taking more space. Early confirmation of this came from last year's sponsors of AITEC CIS Ghana Ltd (Hewlett Packard) who have confirmed their intention to increase their stand from 72 to 100 sq metres in 2002. And Alexander Sulzberger, Managing Director of Ecoband, one of Ghana's major suppliers of communications bandwidth, is to quadruple his last year's stand space. "Our business is growing fast and we are currently working with several overseas partners all of whom want to exhibit at AITEC this year", said Mr Sulzberger. "Like us, they recognize that AITEC WEST AFRICA is the annual opportunity to get close to their customers and at the same time, meet lots of new, highly qualified prospects."
The focal point at this year's exhibition and a major visitor and press attraction will be the Innovation Zone where exhibitors will be invited to display the most unique product or service provided by their company. During the show, an independent panel of judges will make an award for the contribution the winning exhibit is making to the advancement of the ICT industry in West Africa.
AITEC have confirmed their plans to develop a high level stream of VIP visitors to the event in 2002. The VIP Promotion, so successfully introduced in 2001, brought a cross section of Ghana's leading government and private sector executives to meet their counterparts within the information, communication and broadcasting technologies. Says Asinor, "AITEC continues to 'ramp up' its visitor quality and last year's unannounced visit by the Ghana government's then Chief of Staff resulted in a number of high level meetings and the subsequent issuance of a government contract."

Running alongside the exhibition will be AITEC WEST AFRICA Conference designed to serve IT
training, education and networking needs of participants who are mostly mostly key decision makers drawn from both government and private sector. Futhermore an IT Training and Education Forum, a bold new concept intiated by AITEC,with the goal of shaping the future of IT education and training in West Africa would also take place at AITEC WEST AFRICA 2002. The Forum is expected to attract ministers, educators and trainers, research intstitutions, policymakers and directors of educational institutions.

AITEC has a package to suit every exhibitor, large or small, from new business start-ups to multinational conglomerates. AITEC West Africa 2002 provides a cost effective forum for the whole spectrum of IT, telecomms and broadcasting equipment suppliers and operators and targets directly their customer base.

The 6th AITEC West Africa 2002 Conference and exhibition takes place from 16-18 May at the Accra International Conference Centre, Ghana.
