The Charities Aid Foundation (CAF) Southern Africa and the African Institute of Corporate Citizenship (AICC) invite you to attend a morning discussion on Socially Responsible Investment (SRI) in South Africa.

Workshop on Socially Responsible Investment:

What Role can the NGO Sector Play?

The Charities Aid Foundation (CAF) Southern Africa and the African Institute of Corporate Citizenship (AICC) invite you to attend a morning discussion on Socially Responsible Investment (SRI) in South Africa. The AICC has recently published a report on SRI in South Africa and this will form the basis for a presentation by AICC. The presentation will include key findings of the
research as well as the main recommendations put forward in the report. Some questions to consider include:

· If the South African transformation agenda is so crucial, why hasn’t the flow of funds into SRIs reflected this?
· Would SRI investment products make South Africa a more appealing emerging market investment to foreign investors?
· Is there a role for SRI in promoting social change? And what is that role?

Internationally, Civil Society Organisations have played a key role, working with business and government, in guiding the design and implementation of policy around SRIs. We feel that it is important that CSOs are aware of this issue and are able to formulate their own position and input into this important debate.

As part of a drive to stimulate discussion on the topic, CAF and AICC are jointly hosting a workshop on Tuesday 9 April 2002 from 9 – 12 at the Devonshire Hotel, Braamfontein. It is hoped that from the workshop a reference group will be formed who will take the interest of civil society forward in further discussions around this topic.

If you would like to attend this important workshop please RSVP to Fikiswa Buso on 011 339 1136 or on [email protected] by not later than 31 March 2002. For copies of the report go to:
