We are seeking an Assistant Country Director, to be based in Bujumbura,
Burundi. Reporting to the Country Director, and working closely with the
project managers, he/she will help develop and execute the strategy of the
Search for Common Ground in Burundi program, being responsible particularly
for the day to day management of the branch offices and for the overall
operations management of the Bujumbura center.

Assistant Country Director (based in Bujumbura, Burundi)
We are seeking an Assistant Country Director, to be based in Bujumbura,
Burundi. Reporting to the Country Director, and working closely with the
project managers, he/she will help develop and execute the strategy of the
Search for Common Ground in Burundi program, being responsible particularly
for the day to day management of the branch offices and for the overall
operations management of the Bujumbura center.

Search for Common Ground's (SFCG) mission is to transform how individuals,
organizations, and governments deal with conflict - away from adversarial
approaches and toward cooperative solutions. Together with our sister
organisation, the European Centre for Common Ground (ECCG), based in
Brussels, Belgium, we design and implement multifaceted programs that aim to
resolve conflict and prevent violence. We seek to help conflicting parties
to understand their differences and act on their commonalties.

Summary of Post
Search for Common Ground in Burundi has been in operation since 1995 and is
a multi-dimensional program, with four in-country projects aimed at ethnic
reconciliation and decreasing levels of distrust and violence: a radio
studio (Studio Ijambo), a women's peace center, a youth project, and an
"integration" project. The program has about 80 staff in Burundi, located
mainly in Bujumbura but with three branch offices in the interior of the
county.

Duties and Responsibilities
* Deputizing, when appropriate, for the Country Director in his/her absence,
including representing the organization;
* In collaboration with the Country Director, developing and implementing
new projects, including the fundraising and project management aspects;
* Managing the branch offices in Burundi, in collaboration with the Country
Director and project directors;
* Overseeing all administrative functions of the Bujumbura and branch
offices, including logistics and facilities;
* Overseeing the administration of human resources functions, to include the
recruitment of local staff;
* Helping to build the capacity of program staff, in collaboration with the
Country Director and project directors, by identifying training needs and
opportunities for professional and personal development;
* Overseeing the Finance Manager, ensuring that the program's accounts and
financial procedures comply with the organization's internal procedures and
are in accordance with good accounting principles, including the preparation
of budgets for new proposals and financial reports for donors;
* Overseeing the procurement of equipment and supplies, in collaboration
with appropriate staff locally and in headquarters;
* Ensuring equipment inventories are maintained by each office;
* Working with the Country Director in designing and updating security
contingency plans, in collaboration with appropriate staff;
* Updating local policies and procedures, in collaboration with the Country
Director and General Manager, based in Washington DC;
* Supervising program, financial, logistical and administrative staff, as
assigned;
* Being engaged in the continuing development of the organization, its
mission and its staff, through the sharing of experience and knowledge,
particularly contributing to its "Best Practices and Lessons Learned" tool;
* Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Essential
* 4 years experience working in Africa, in program and/or finance and
administrative positions, including managing and training people of other
cultures, preferably in a development-oriented field
* Proficient in Microsoft Office
* Experience/knowledge of common methodology
* Commitment to working in a conflict transformation organization
* Proficiency in French and English, spoken and written
* College degree in appropriate subject
Desirable
* Familiarity with computer technologies, and able to advise on systems and
train staff in basic operations
* A sense of humor
