On behalf of the International Trade Centre's World Tr@de Net programme, I am pleased to invite you to participate in our e-mail based conference on business and the next WTO Ministerial Conference which will take place on 15-19 October 2001. By registering (at no cost) for this e-discussion, you will receive a daily summary of the debate in one of the languages that can be used in the conference (English, French, and Spanish). You will have the opportunity to respond with your opinion and experiences.
I am sure, that you have already heard a lot about the biennial Ministerial Conferences of the World Trade Organization. After the
failure of the last Ministerial Conference in Seattle to launch a new
round of trade negotiations, trade ministers will again meet in Doha
(Qatar), between 9 and 13 November, to review the functioning of the WTO
system, and, possibly, to decide on initiating a new trade round. At
present, trade diplomats in Geneva are still working on a draft
Ministerial Declaration. It would be too early to predict the outcome of
these negotiations, but what we can state fairly is that the fate of the
next Ministerial Conference is of considerable interest to the business
community.
Since 1999, the World Tr@de Net (WTN) programme has been following
developments in the WTO and has done its best to explain to the business
communities in developing countries and transition economies the
business implications of WTO negotiations. (For more information consult
the web-site of the programme:
are encouraged to respond. I will moderate the discussion via e-mail.
To participate, send an e-mail to [email][email protected] You will receive a
simple registration form and more information. It is important to fill
in and send back the registration form to be part of the discussion. If
you have questions or need help to register, send an e-mail to
[email][email protected]
Please, forward this e-mail to any of your colleagues who may be
interested in sharing their opinions, ideas and experiences.
Sincerely,
Peter Naray
