Victims in Côte d’Ivoire have yet to see justice for the serious human rights abuses perpetrated by both sides during the 2010-11 post-election crisis. President Alassane Ouattara early in his presidency made solemn commitments to bring perpetrators to account, but has delivered very little.

Sports is an area of human interaction where respect for rules, teamwork and fair play are the norm. Teamwork, cooperation, abiding by the rules, respect for opponents and similar concepts all feature in the principles of the Charter of the United Nations.

Last month’s presidential election capped four years of relative peace in Cote d’Ivoire.

At the end of March 2014, Ivorian President Alassane Outtara declared in Abidjan: “we are determined to ensure that [the 2015 elections"> are transparent and truly democratic”.
