On September 3, 2011, up to six armed men surrounded youth protest leader ‘Pandita Nehru’ nearby Independence Square, in Luanda, where he and several others planned to hold a protest that morning.

A group of former presidential guards had planned to march towards the presidential palace on May 27 in protest against the social and economic conditions in which they were living. The date is filled with symbolism.

The trial of journalist Ramiro Aleixo began on 11 May,2012 at the Luanda Provincial Court in Angola. Aleixo stands accused of the crimes of defamation, slander and injury against the military justice system, namely its Supreme Court and office of the military attorney.
