Description: ·Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Conducting investigations independently and with local organizations
into currenthuman rights issues;
Reporting findings regularly and preparing drafts of reports and press
releases as needed;
Observing trials in Rwandan national courts, both civilian and military,
and monitoring broader issues of justice, including the state of
appeals, ongoing investigations, and the training of judicial personnel;

Developing relationships with local human rights organizations and
assisting them when possible;
Organizing and maintaining the field office, working independently or as
a part of a team with international and local personnel;
Representing Human Rights Watch to Rwandan government officials, press,
NGOs, the diplomatic corps, U.N. personnel, and others in accord with
organizational policy.

Education: Master (MA, MSW, etc.)
Additional Qualifications: An advanced degree in law, international
relations, or a related field in history or the social sciences, as well
as experience in human rights work are required. Candidates should have
a good command of French and, ideally, experience living and working in
Africa. The ideal candidate will be highly motivated, well organized,
able to work quickly and well under pressure, persistent, patient, with
excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
