Africa: Executive Secretary - ACC

The Coalition of an Effective African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights (the Coalition) was founded in 2004 and brings together a group of African human rights organisations, individuals and national human rights institutions. Its mission is to influence effective, efficient, independent and credible African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights. The Coalition was registered in 2007 in Tanzania and is headquartered in Arusha. The Coalition is recruiting an Executive Secretary to provide strategic and operational leadership.

Its mission is to influence effective, efficient, independent and credible African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights. The Coalition was registered in 2007 in Tanzania and is headquartered in Arusha. The Coalition is recruiting an Executive Secretary to provide strategic and operational leadership.

Key performance areas will include:

* Overall leadership and operational management,
* Oversee all programme run by the organisation including special projects,
* Fundraising for implementation of organisational programme
* Strategic planning, framework development and budget planning
* Programme and personnel reporting to board
* Travelling throughout Africa to advance human rights through an effective African human rights court,
* following policy development on the court at African Union level and implementation of advocacy strategies targeting the court
* Promote visibility and leadership of the Coalition by encouraging and supporting the creation and maintenance of national and sub-regional networks working on the African Court;
* Meeting with Judges and other officials of the Court, Inter-Governmental Organisations and government officials, as well as other key persons to promote the Coalition’s goals;
* Business growth and attracting new members
* Developing partnerships and organising events and opportunities that benefit the organisation
* Manage annual meetings and other initiatives in conjunction with partners
* Communication and marketing, through newsletter, annual report and representation at events

Competencies

* Interpersonal, teamwork, cross-cultural awareness and stress tolerance, innovation and excellent communication skills, oral and written, English (French a bonus)
* Five to seven years of progressively responsible experience in management, advocacy and network building;
* Knowledge and familiarity with the African human rights system;
* Familiarity with integrating legal and campaign strategies;
* Ability to interact with NGOs, government officials and intergovernmental organisations with professionalism, tact, diplomacy and cultural sensitivity;
* Skilled at prioritising, multi-tasking, time and responding to changing priorities;
* Demonstrate experience in personnel and project management;
* Dynamism, self-motivation, independence; integrity, professionalism
* Strong commitment to international justice.

Requirements
* Degree in Law, International Relations or other relevant field; specialisation in Human Rights or Humanitarian Law would be an advantage;
