TRADE UNION CONFERENCE FOR AFRICAN LIBERATION
Saturday 10 November 2007

Africa is virtually facing re-colonisation. Multinationals seem to be in control. China and the West are competing over the continents resources and international finance institutions and trade organisations are facilitating the plunder.

The continent is also witnessing wars which are leading to the death and injury of thousands of men, women and children. The latter two groups are particularly vulnerable. These conflicts which have become proxy wars of some western countries make it easy for the West and multinationals to take resources from the continent without adhering to national legislation or even the unfair and unjust rules of world trade.

However, there are forces, including trade unionists, who have been struggling on the African continent to reverse this situation; to achieve a more just relationship betweenAfrica and the rest of the world and social justice for Africans across the continent.

Building on the admirable legacy of the British trade unions in the anti-apartheid struggle our trade unions can again provide solidarity with these struggles.
It is in keeping with this tradition that the South-East Region Trade Union Congress (SERTUC), National Union of Journalists London Freelance Branch, T& GWU ACTS Central London Branch, T&GWU ACTS West London, Colchester Trades Council, Redbridge NUT, Caribbean Labour Solidarity have responded to appeals from ALISC Network to support grass root activists in Africa.

As a follow up to this support you are invited to endorse and register for a Trade Unions Conference for African Liberation being co-ordinated by ALISC Network and SOAS Friends of Africa on Saturday 10 November from 10 am to 5pm at Vernon Square Building near King’s Cross, Room V111, School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) Vernon Square Campus, Vernon Square, London WC1 (near Kings Cross)

Registration is only £2.
