Save the Children, an international relief and development agency,
seeks a Senior Research Specialist to oversee global research activi-
ties for The Saving Newborn Lives Initiative (SNL).

Responsibilities include day-to-day guidance and management of re-
search and overseeing the technical and ethical research proposal re-
view; providing managerial support to field offices and partners in
pursuit of research objectives; managing the development, implementa-
tion and evaluation of SNL research with a particular emphasis in
Latin America and Africa; reviewing and advising on research propos-
als and reports; preparing annual reviews, analysis and reports of
strategic plans and research progress; and contributing to global
technical advisory groups, information related to newborn health.

Requires a Medical Degree in pediatrics and/or Master's Degree or
relevant training and 5+ years' experience in quantitative, opera-
tions, evaluation, epidemiological and/or demographic research. Sub-
stantial experience in leadership and management of field based pro-
gram and research activities; proven leadership in public health re-
search; and ability to develop and implement review systems. Five
plus years' prior experience working in Africa or Asia in the field
of international development necessary. Excellent writing and commu-
nication skills in English required with French and/or Spanish highly
desirable. Able to travel 30% of the time.
