Human Rights Programme's Centre for Philosophy of Law.

The Centre for Philosophy of law is a research unit of the Faculty of Law of
the Free University of Brussels (ULB). The Centre starts a new research
programme on human rights. Our goal is to create a Human rights Internet web
site that will offer a concise gateway for human rights information,
articles, and comments.

That programme is bilingual: French and English.
In order to collect and coordinate these scientific data, the Centre is
creating a European Network called Human Rights Euronet, composed by
professors and researchers specialised in human rights. Each member would
contribute to build the Internet site in editing his work on it.

Purpose of the internship programme
1. Internships for graduate students are intended to:
a) Increase the intern's understanding of current human rights issues at the
international level and give them an insight into the work of the human
rights research program of the Centre for Philosophy of Law in particular;
and
b) Provide the Centre mechanisms with the assistance and contribution of
outstanding young students or graduates in law.
2. The relationship between the Centre for Philosophy of Law and the intern
is one of mutual benefit. Interns are assigned to specific missions
according to the needs of the Centre and their own areas of interest. They
are involved, inter alia, in: researching human rights issues (mainly on the
Internet), drafting analytical and critical reports of human rights web
sites, providing substantive and technical servicing, translating and
correcting documents.
Qualifications required
3. The participants in the internship programme are selected from graduate
students and holders of graduate level degrees in Law. Preference will be
given to those, within these disciplines, who have specialized in human
rights issues. Typically, interns do not have previous working experience of
this nature. Applicants must be sponsored by an academic institution and
must have a good command of French. The applicant must be fluent in English.
Internship dates and duration
4. Internships are for a minimum period of one month and may be renewed once
for a further one-month period. The maximum duration of internships at the
Centre for Philosophy of law is three months. When applying for an
internship, candidates should indicate the quarter(s) for which they wish to
be considered.
Conditions of service
6. Interns are assigned to work with a supervisor who is responsible for
providing them with a description of duties and a workplan.
7. The internships are not remunerated. Travel costs and living expenses
must be borne by the interns themselves or by a sponsoring institution.
Interns are responsible for making their own travel arrangements and for
obtaining visas. However, the Centre for Philosophy of Law accepts, under
conditions, to contribute to the cost of the accommodation of the intern.
8. The Centre for Philosophy of Law accepts no responsibility for costs
arising from accidents and/or illness incurred during an internship. Interns
must have their own health insurance.
9. There is no expectancy of employment at the end of the internship.
10. Interns are expected to work full-time and to carry out the duties
assigned to them. They do not accrue annual leave during the period of the
internship. Otherwise they are bound by the same duties and obligations as
regular staff members; in particular, all confidential and unpublished
information obtained during the internship may not be used by interns
without the written authorization of the Centre for Philosophy of Law.

11. To apply, please submit a copy of your resume, a cover letter indicating
your interest and relevant skills, a writing sample (three pages of a recent
paper you have written), a list of courses taken, and a letter of
recommendation:

the starting date of the internship.
