Nairobi Poetry Festival 2005

The 1st Nairobi International Poetry Festival has announced its poetry festival which will be held on March 21 ­ 23rd 2005. The theme of the festival will be "The Imagination of Poetry in the HIV/AIDS Pandemic". Poetry performances are encouraged as there will be poetry readings from renowned African poets, as well as from the rest of the world.

The 1st Nairobi International Poetry Festival announces its poetry festival which will be held on March 21 ­ 23rd 2005. The theme of the festival will be "The Imagination of Poetry in the HIV/AIDS Pandemic".
Suitable topics for twenty minute presentations could involve a multitude of perspectives. The topics listed below are indicative but not exclusive:
Poetry and HIV/AIDS (continuum from prevention to care)
Poetry and sexuality
Poetry and gender
Poetry and virginity
Poetry and poverty
Poetry and spirituality
Poetry performances are encouraged as there will be poetry readings from renowned African poets, as well as from the rest of the world. Nairobi will be full of poetry as the poets will be holding readings and open mics in different centres of Nairobi.
Following this, the festival committee plans to work with selected authors to publish a thematic book volume to be published in 2006. The title of the book will be "Poetry Against Aids:Voices from the World". The festival proceedings will also be published.
Proposals for the poetry festival should include:
Registration USD 2,000. (to cover Accommodation, local travel,meals).
Individual or Co-authored papers.
Entire sessions of 4 papers.
Sample of work (at least 10 poems) or a book.
Author / panelist / poets name(s) postal address/ telephone/ fax/ e-mail address/ paper / session title.
100 word (maximum) abstract of the paper / panel.
