Statement on the passing of Hugo Chavez
He was probably the most demonized democratically elected president in the world because of his bold opposition to US imperialism, denouncing and exposing the predatory capitalist system which is inflicting mass poverty globally
The Pan-Afrikan Community Movement (PACM) is a newly formed grassroots Pan-Africanist community-based movement of youths, students, women and employed and unemployed workers in Sierra Leone. We believe and uphold the Pan-Africanist ideology of Africa’s total liberation, unity and socialist transformation. We stand for the self-emancipation and self-determination of the oppressed and exploited Afrikan masses at home and abroad. We are opposed to privatisation, racism, sexism, neo-colonialism and imperialist proxy wars in Africa. We are part of the worldwide resistance to neoliberal globalization and the worldwide Pan-Africanist movement.
PACM expresses our deepest revolutionary condolences to the people of Venezuela on the crossover of President Hugo Chavez Frias, a hero in the struggle against capitalism and imperialism. Chavez was 58 years old and was loved by the Venezuela people and oppressed and exploited people worldwide. He was probably the most demonized democratically elected president in the world because of his bold opposition to US imperialism, denouncing and exposing the predatory capitalist system which is inflicting mass poverty globally.
Chavez was a socialist and his policies were pro-people. For example he nationalized Venezuela oil resources for the benefit of the people, reduced poverty by half and extreme poverty by 70 percent. Millions of people got access to health care for the first time, access to education also increased sharply, with college enrollment doubling and free tuition for all. Eligibility to public pension tripled. Chavez’ economic policy is an outstanding lesson for the world in the utilization of national resources to benefit the owners the citizens.
Chavez emerged from the African and indigenous working class communities of Venezuela. He spoke favourably of his African ancestry, saying: ‘We love Africa and every day we are more aware of the root we have in Africa’. He exemplified revolutionary solidarity as evidenced in his opposition to NATO interventions across the world including Libya and Syria as well as building strong alliances with Latin American counties and the Caribbean to free them from US imperialism.
It is possible that Chavez was poisoned by agents of US imperialism but imperialist elimination of our revolutionary leaders will never curb the worldwide revolution to overthrow capitalism. We must build international peoples alliances against this vicious inhuman capitalist system.
