Western images of Black people in earlier centuries portrayed Africans as a people without history, incapable of poetry, too intellectually retarded to philosophise, and too mentally slow to be scientific.
On my way to a conference on Africa and Asia in Tanzania last month I stopped in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. I was keen to make sense of the fast-paced change that has been taking place in Ethiopia after a young man, Abiy Ahmed, was appointed by the ruling party as Prime Minister in April this year.
Ends and means of democracy
Africans have been at least as violent as anything ever perpetrated by other peoples; what is distinctive about Africans is their short memory of hate—so said Kenyan scholar Ali Mazrui. By way of illustration Mazrui thus described four examples.

Can we classify the scholarship of the master-classifier Ali A. Mazrui? Mazrui had a special liking and gift for classifying different concepts, events and processes in original way.
