I have not appeared here in Pambazuka News, for a minute too long! But a child never forgets where home is. It is good to be back!

As a prodigal child, you are always haunted by your unceremonious departure from home. You never stop thinking about making your return trip, and wonder how to return strategically without getting jettisoned. Finally, you gain the courage to actually return—because home is home.

Within Uganda, it is common to hear arguments that men rape women because women wear indecent clothing or invite men into their homes or drink late into the night with men or accept a ride home.

It is the expectation in every culture that a guest shows appreciation for the hospitality given, and when presented with an opportunity returns the favour. Nobody expects a guest to abuse or misuse kindness, expect perhaps when that guest has long ears to the ground.

A lot has already been said about the election of Barack Hussein Obama as the 44th president of the United States of America. Immeasurable excitement expressed all around the world, tears shed, hope revealed and work already started.
