When “Cassius Clay” (as he then was) entered the ring to fight Sonny Liston for the World Heavyweight title in February 1964, I was afraid that Sonny Liston would kill him.

I would like to have written many things when I was in Azania, but unfortunately things do not always go as planned. There I did not have enough time to be alone and write, and since I had difficulties in connecting to the internet, it became a little more difficult.

In recent weeks, news of food crises in countries across Africa has been intensifying. From the Democratic Republic of Congo all the way down to South Africa – via Malawi, Zimbabwe, Angola and many others – low rainfall has contributed to millions more being left vulnerable.

In recent weeks we have been witness to a proliferation of media reports and press clippings about alleged corrupt relationships between the Gupta family and the state.

Like most of my countrymen and women, I am shocked, appalled, and extremely saddened by the terrorist attacks in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, on 15 January 2016. Our country was previously spared from such barbaric jihadist violence, which has become a frequent occurrence around the globe.

However the situation in Burkina Faso is resolved, it is unlikely that the logics of the nation-state that guide African political formations will be questioned.

A highly fluid political situation has been developing in the West African state of Burkina Faso after an elite military unit seized power on September 17, just weeks ahead of a scheduled national election on October 11.
