Zahra Moloo: What took you to Rwanda and what inspired you to write this book?

INTRODUCTION

ACQUELINE MOUDEINA: My name is Jacqueline Moudeina. I am a lawyer recognized by the Bar in Chad and I am president of the Chadian Association for the Promotion and Defense of Human Rights (ATPDH), an organization that has chosen, through its work, to address the fight against impunity.

Zahra Moloo interviews Nnimmo Bassey co-founder of Environmental Rights Action (ERA), a Nigerian advocacy NGO, also known as Friends of the Earth Nigeria. Bassey has been involved in the struggle against oil exploitation in the Niger Delta. In 2010 he was awarded the Right Livelihood award.

On a side street in Nairobi’s bustling neighbourhood of Shauri Moyo, Faisal Ngila shouts to street vendors, motorbike taxi drivers and pedestrians.

The Thigithe River in North Mara, Tanzania, meanders through scattered villages and clumps of trees in a vast expanse of land ringed by hills close to the Kenyan border. Nearby, an enormous, sprawling mound of rocks and stones several metres high reaches up from the earth.
